Giving a Brief Background
Born in Alaska and raised in California by a hardworking single mother, I, Jamin Pursell, have called Richmond’s May Valley neighborhood home since 2010, living with my husband and our two dogs. My academic journey began in the California community college system, leading me to Cal State East Bay where I earned a BA in Political Science and Philosophy, followed by a Master in the Science of Law from Pacific University McGeorge School of Law.
As a founding board member of Richmond Rainbow Pride, a former member of the May Valley Neighborhood Council, and part of the El Sobrante Valley planning and zoning committee, my commitment to local governance has been unwavering. My role as co-chair of the Richmond Shoreline Alliance and involvement in various local organizations further demonstrate my dedication to Richmond's community. With experience in political campaigns, including for city council members and Mark DeSaulnier's congressional bid, I have actively contributed to shaping our local political landscape.
Today, as a small business owner and artist, I continue to serve our community, ensuring inclusivity and representation in all I do. This background, coupled with my roles in the Richmond Progressive Alliance Steering Committee, as President of the West County Democratic Club, a board member of the West County Sierra Club, a Task Force member of the Reimagine Public Safety Task Force, and a Commissioner on the Contra Costa Hazardous Materials Commission, and member of the Contra Costa Fish and Wildlife Committee.
